Cristiano Ronaldo was named after Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th President of the United Stated, because his father liked the films in which Reagan appeared.
He trained in Sporting Clube de Portugal for 5 years. His talent and persistence made him more successful than others in this club. At the age of 15, Ronaldo was diagnosed with a racing heart. But he returned after treatment with the help of his mother and others and began his senior club career. He became the first player to play for the club’s under-16, under-17 and under-18 teams, the B team, and the first team in one season. In 2002, Ronaldo made his debut in the Primeira Liga and scored two goals, which was excellent for a 17-year-old boy.
Ronaldo transferred to Manchester United with transfer fee of £12.24 million, which made him, at the time, the most expensive teenager in English football history. Ronaldo played for the national team at first time in a friendly match against Kazakhstan on August 20, 2003. He was appointed as the captain of the team February 6, 2007 in a friendly match against Brazil.
